Fighting Arts Alliance
What is the Fighting Arts Alliance?
The Fighting Arts Alliance is my home base on the internet, and a place
for like-minded individuals to convene and share information. You can
read more about the reasons why I started the group
on this blog post.
Membership
Membership in the Alliance costs £25 per year for individuals. If you join
as an individual, I take this to mean that you are unaffiliated with any of
the governing bodies in the martial arts. I'm looking for people who
are independent. I don't want to be feeding information back into
larger organizations. Your individual membership gets you access to all of the web
features detailed below.
If you are a teacher/trainer running a club or group, I request that you contact me
so that we can discuss your individual situation and come to membership terms that suit
us both. In most cases with a group, we will plan a number of
training sessions at your gym over the course of the year so that I can work with you
and your members. The membership fee for the group leader in this case
is waived, and members within the group who want access to the site features
can pay a reduced rate. Everything, including fees and course
size/structure will be individually tailored
depending on the size of the group, your location, and your goals for
yourself and your members.
Members Only Features
When you join the Alliance, you will receive a username and password that
allow access to the private pages of the website.
Primal
Membership includes access to Primal. We train two Sundays a month in
Birmingham from 1-4 pm. I have closed the sessions to the public and
reduced the price to £10 to allow Fighting Arts Alliance members to train as
often as possible. For more about Primal, see the
blog page under the
Primal tag.
Video Content
The Alliance section of the site contains an extensive library of my video
clips, nearly all of which are unavailable anywhere else. Some have been taken from videos that
we no longer sell, including the discontinued Toudi Kempo Masterclass Series
and the NHB series of 2000/2001. Some have never been available before.
There are also clips from recent training at Primal. There is even a little
unreleased footage from the early 1980s. All of the footage is
substantial and has been chosen
for its lasting value.
Interestingly, when I reviewed some of the material I
noted that a number of concepts and catchphrases now in vogue with my
contemporaries were
included in my videos made between eight and ten years ago, well before
anyone else was talking about them.
More video will be added as we go along.
The initial batch of video content includes:
Selected segments from NHB2 (2000)
Conditional fighting 1980
Steve Morris bag and pad work 1980s
Mixed clips selected from unreleased Toudi Kempo sessions (1998)
Selected clips from 1980s private instructional sessions in Horsham
Private instruction of professional boxer 2008
Selected segments from NHB series Introduction to Takedowns (2000)
Clips from Primal 2008
Clips from Primal 2009
Initial stages of video blog--some informal thoughts on training
PLEASE NOTE
AT PRESENT, THE CLIPS DO NOT RUN ON MAC COMPUTERS.
Skype Consultation
From the Alliance pages you can also access exclusive members-only private
consultations via Skype. These are charged at a rate of £25 for up to
an hour and are handled over a video link that can be accessed worldwide.
Fighter's Notebook Approximately 17,000
words, Steve's notes on training from the 2004-2008.
Fighting Arts Alliance Board
We have set up a members-only discussion forum for the Fighting Arts
Alliance. The board is a place for members to discuss their own
training, ask questions, post goals and objectives, share training methods,
discuss current fights, and generally keep in touch with each other and with
me. I'll be recommending specific viewing and reading as well as sharing the
methods that I use for researching and developing training methods. I
want to provide a rich resource of valuable information that can make a real
difference in your training.
I want to emphasize that the discussion board is non-political. If I
have anything of a political nature to say, this will appear out in the open
on my blog or website. I don't talk about people behind their back.
Because the discussion board is for serious training discussion only, anyone
who behaves disruptively online risks having their forum account cancelled
and membership discontinued. In the same way, if material appearing on
this private site is reproduced elsewhere, then that will also be grounds
for discontinuation. Please keep this policy in mind when joining.
If you think you are at risk of violating these terms, then don't even
bother signing up for the forum.
Please note that
the board can only be viewed by Alliance members.
If you try to register for the board without first joining the Alliance,
your registration will be declined.
How to Join
If you want to join the Alliance, drop me an e-mail with your name,
address, e-mail address, and a brief statement of your background. I'm
not screening on the basis of experience, I just want to know who you are.
Also include your desired username and password, unless you want us to
assign you something.
You will then receive information about how to pay, and when your payment
has been processed we'll activate your account.
Any questions, let me know.
