Morris No Holds Barred

This site is my personal statement about my experiences of the martial arts, my evolution, and the rationale underlying the methods I've developed for fight training. I wish somebody had given me even a quarter of this information when I first set off on my journey, instead of trying to get me to swallow a load of gobshite. My hope is that this site will change the perception of many martial artists with regard to fighting and fight training. For those who find my confrontational, in-your-face attitude to be offensive: get over it. It's what I have to say that's important, and not the way I say it. And if you can get over my notorious 'lack of interpersonal skills,' the better the martial artist you will be for it. Steve Morris Acknowledgements... In recent years I've struggled to get my method out there into the martial arts mainstream, and there have been times when I couldn't have moved forward without the generosity and good will of a number of friends and colleagues. Tom O'Shaughnessy, a close friend since 1972 and someone I can really talk to Mick Coup, a respected colleague who has introduced me to the self-protection community Andy Dunne, a former student who has helped me through some difficult times Vincent Jauncey, another former student and Muay Thai champion who has stuck by me for many years Dennis Joness, a man with real street experience and a good friend Richard Cotterill and Pep Padovano ( www.balintawak.co.uk and www.balintawakarnis.co.uk ) gave me some direction years ago on weaponry, and they're also good friends Alan Jones also gave me some insights into weapons, and continues to support what I do Arthur Meek is a karate guy who has moved into kickboxing and MMA very successfully. This is the direction karate should be going! He trains regularly at Primal. Tony Pillage runs Way of the Spiritual Warrior in Coventry. He stepped forward and offered me a weekly training slot completely free, and it's thanks to this that I've been able to establish Primal. In 2006 when I found myself in the middle of a karate controversy yet again, Steve Rowe stepped forward and invited me to teach a seminar. It was a vote of confidence in me and has enabled me to make connections that wouldn't have otherwise happened. Although our approach to martial arts is very different, he's shown himself to be an open-minded and fair man and you don't meet many of those in the martial arts. Gavin Mulholland, Stuart Gent, and Dan Lewis are former students who have acknowledged my influence upon them throughout my running battle with the karate establishment. Like Arthur Meek, they are moving their training in the right direction. People (many of whom I've never met) who have consistently supported this site through donations, technical advice and other help include Mark Perry, Richard Nguyen, Luciano Imoto, James Bird, Tommy Pressimone, Ken Fortunato, Bernard Ryan, Michael Sivarajah, Mike Bank, Ken Milling, Simon Beckett and Paul Stanford. On films and courses in recent years I'm particularly grateful to Mark Perry, Floyd Brown, Raj Saigal, Bob Allen, Bernie Gavan, Vince Porter, Steve Genney, Paul Walker, Tom Crudgington and his mate Matt. Finally, I'd like to thank the 'core group' at Primal: Rob, Rory, Spence, Dan, Rob Manning, Paul, Jon. And let's not forget my sweets supplier and (like Dan) a young champion in the making, Kishen. You guys make it possible for me to move this thing forward.
