Steve Morris, perhaps more than anyone else I have met, totally 'lives' martial arts and this fervency - including his willingness to back up what he preaches- has often left other martial artists with a distorted impression....and the term 'mad Morris' has been said, or rather whispered in some circles. Of course, this is not the case at all (Unless all of us, who devote a lot of our time and energy to the martial ways could be termed 'mad'... if so, then yes, Morris would be at the front of the queue). His dedication is amazing but to lesser mortals such a pre-occupation must appear fanatical I suppose. It is doubtful, whether or not Morris's students and fellow martial artists fully appreciate the wealth of experience and ability that is virtually 'on tap' to them, as he makes no attempt to hold anything back. I for one, never fail to learn something new from him, every time we meet and he has influenced me considerably in my martial arts development. It's true that experiencing the Steve Morris brand of training, direct from the horse's mouth, can be a little painful but then what's a little pain in the pursuit of knowledge! Terry O'Neill, Fighting Arts International

I have been hugely impressed with Steve's work for a considerable time now...(he) is a phenomenal operator and instructor....The 'tough guys' out there are indeed experts and superb practitioners, and this isn't to take anything away from them, but merely to elevate Steve Morris as being the genius that he is. Mick Coup

You go China! ('get out of China')Yu Bin, China, 1993 right after I defeated the Dog Boxer Chai Chu-Xian, Chief Instructor of Fuzhou Martial Arts Center

In my opinion the ‘Morris Method’ is pure martial arts, I say ‘pure’ because it’s the functional aspect that should underpin any ‘art’ or ‘style’. Steve Rowe

Having been impressed with Steve Morris’ ever-evolving method since the early nineties, training in which has helped me no end, I am convinced that his method could be adapted to meet our specific needs especially in Body guarding (Reactive Protection). Bob Allen (Royalty Protection Department)

Morris, the iron man of the martial arts, has rejected the mainstream of the karate world and it busy turning his private backwater into a cataract of new and revolutionary fighting ideas. Tony Flood, Combat editor, 1976

Steve Morris is a special man, prepared to stand alone as he turns or perhaps, pulls apart the vagaries that permeate the world of martial arts...Watching him teach, it is obvious that he has developed a ‘total method’ of training that will prepare the student for the reality of fighting. Dennis Jones

This man is on another level; a level I have not seen in anyone else...I've never met a man so committed, so possessed to maximize his potential... He's relentless, voracious in all he does. Coupled with some, actually many, serious God-given attributes, this is what makes him stand out and stand alone.

I suggest for those who are serious about improving their martial skills, study with this man if and while you can. He's really that good. Those of you who live close to him are very lucky. I wish he was here in LA... Lito Angeles

The Japanese had no idea how to handle him. James Sumarac (referring to Morris' 5th Dan grading in Gogen Yamaguchi's dojo, 1973)

In my 33 years of martial arts study, which includes 22 years on this publication, very few people have impressed me as much as this man. His knowledge and ability are quite extraordinary. Terry O'Neill, Fighting Arts International

I have travelled the world of martial arts and was on friendly terms with some of the foremost teachers but never met anyone who impressed me more than Steve Morris. David Mitchell

You're a great leader of men, Morris. The trouble is, you lead them all the wrong way. Commanding Officer, British Army Benghazi, 1963

Attempting to capture his remarkable abilities in print is like trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Bey Logan, editor of Combat and Traditional Karate (read more...)

Today I met someone who in my opinion, stands head and shoulders above the rest of the martial arts fraternity. By the best I don't mean the legions of fourth, fifth, and sixth dans, the self-proclaimed gurus, who seem to litter the karate arena in increasing numbers, but those who are considered to be the very best. Bob Spour, ex-SAS, Muay Thai trainer

I have trained all over the world including China, Thailand, Indonesia and of course, Japan. I have trained for over 30 years and I have to say that I have never seen an equal to Steve Morris. Gavin Mulholland

As for whether Bruce Lee could punch or kick faster than any other martial artist, well, I wish you would have been there with me when Bey, Ken Hassell and myself visited Steve Morris at his home a few months ago. He demonstrated a speed and power of technique in his home dojo that I doubt anyone, including Bruce Lee, could match. Lee was fast, I'll give him that, but even with all his weight and momentum behind it, he could never match a similar blow from a man built like Steve Morris, which is to say, like a brick (expletive deleted)--house! Steve Cattle, Combat Magazine 1989

It would take an axe to stop him. Gary Spiers
